Some cars are just a natural for detailing. Black cars always show off the detailing, but the 442 has a little more chrome than most models available. Of course the 1:1 is a gorgeous car to start with so detailing this model takes it to a new level of WOW! Ertl really did the detailer a favor by making all that trim prominent and crisp.

From the top you can see how that sweeping fender trim really pops out. You can also see how the hood grills come alive with a little chrome.

As mentioned in the main article, cars with side marker lights get a great looking detail when the marker light bezels can be chromed. Wheel openings alway improve the car from the side view. Most 1:18 models have well molded wheel arch trim ridges which are easy to follow with chrome foil. Also note how small dabs of silver paint can make those chrome lug nuts show up on the dark wheels. Though you can't see it in this view, don't forget to put a little dab of black paint in the hollows of those under bumper scoops to make them wake up. Usually the grills on most cars can benefit from a little extra attention.

The interiors are typically well designed, but usually lacking in colored detailing. Everything is for the most part just interior color plastic. Here is how the 442 interior perks up with a little paint on the door panels and on the steering wheel horn pad. It's clear a touch of silver paint on some knobs and switches can even further the effect.

The engine compartment wakes up. Though this model already has visual appeal with the red fender liners and gold engine, a few touches of paint on the battery, master cylinder, radiator cap and radiator hose clamps takes the effect even further. I was itching to paint the washer bottle, but an Olds person told me they typically were black plastic not white as on many other cars.

The undercarriage is where this model really breaks out. You can see how the silver paint on the gas tank sparks some life into the undercarriage. This model really benefits from a silver treatment to the exhaust. Look for items that can benefit from a spalsh of bright color like the blue oil filter on this model.

Let's take a peak at the front of this one. Much better. Aaaaaaaa....... See what I mean? Just look how much more defined the detailed car looks. Which looks more real? THAT'S what I'm talking about.
