1965 Pontiac GTO, Gold (Sunstar)

The color gold and the GTO just seems to go together. Sunstar finally made a decent hardtop '65 GTO for us and it turns out it details pretty well. The wheels were already pretty well detailed. From this angle you can see the chrome detailing I added to the car. I also blacked out the grill better than the way it came. I also chromed the tail pipe tips.

That molded in roof sure looks better than the tacked on piece of the Maisto GTO. I added a little black wash to the tail light lenses to help them look more like the real ones. In the 1:1s very little red actually shows through so these look too red but at least I have toned them down a bit. You can again see the exhaust splitter tips and the hollows I painted on.

The interior is nicely done. I really haven't added any details here.

Unlike the interior I added lots of detail to the engine. The master cylinder has been painted, the firewall has been painted black, it came body color, painted the carbs and the air cleaner elements. I also painted the exhaust manifolds, radiator cap, distributor, voltage regulator and the underside of the hood. I also black washed the cowl vent. I painted the air cleaner elements olive green. The 1:1s could have optionally had reusable green foam & wire screen elements in place of paper ones. The additional color adds some interest under the hood. The battery caps were already painted. It also came with gray paint on the air cleaner lids so I chromed these to look correct.

The exhaust and gas tank were already painted so I removed a tab which connected the pipes about half way down. I painted the drive shaft, steering link, shocks and anti-sway bar.
