1971 Buick GSX, Bittersweet Mist (Ertl)

I just realized today I do not yet have a GSX listed on my site. I have a '70 GS but no GSX. Well this should take care of that! I'm also working on my own 70 and 71 GSXs so we'll be able to see those soon. These have a little more chrome than most. The side marker lights sure look good when chromed. This car also got some satin finish foil to the cowl at the base of the windshield to simulate the satin finish stainless piece at that spot on the 1:1s.

It's pretty clear Ertl had their act together years and years ago. This is a nice mold but really doesn't wake up until those huge rocker moldings get the required chrome.

The white interior on this model sure sets it apart from the REs that are available. White seats with black carpet and dash really look great, it offers such nice contrast. I detailed the door panels a little by painting the cranks, door handles and badges. A little black paint on the screw nubs helps them disappear a bit. The steering wheel pops out well when the spokes are painted properly.

This one got the plug wire treatment though with the air cleaner being so large it can be hard to see in this picture. It looks better in person, trust me! There are lots of items under the hood to paint and help this area really come to life. The underside of the hood has also been painted.

Unlike more modern Ertl products, this one started with an almost completely black undercarriage. A little paint here and there really makes it look real. I've come up with a new way to make the gas tank straps look crisp and clean. And the new technique is a ton easier than either masking or painting them.
