1967 Chevelle SS396, white (Ertl)

I haven't done any detailing for a while. It was good to not only do a full blown detailing job but to also do a Chevelle and to detail one to match someone's real car.

I met Kelley at Chevell-Abration 2002 and the Mid America Chevelle Regionals 2002 in Kansas City. Kelley's car is very similar to the Cannaday's white Chevelle so we had a good head start. Kelley's car, however has the base 325hp 396 instead of the 375hp 396 featured in Ertl's Chevelles. We swapped on dog dish wheels from the Ertl black Chevelle to match Kelley's car. Externally that's about all we needed.

Here's the real deal in Kansas City.

He asked me to keep the redlines, maybe he plans to add them to his real car later. On the street he runs 1967 Missouri plates so I made those up for him. The car got full chrome trim detailing. Ertl does a nice job with the interiors so I didn't really do anything here.

To make the Ertl engine look like a 325hp motor is relatively simple. The intake manifold needs to be orange (for some reason it already is on the Cannaday's version!) and I had to make up a snorkled air cleaner. I had no way to make a new air cleaner sticker so I simply altered it to read 325hp. I also removed the brake booster since the 1:1 has standard brakes. I added the typical details to the alternator, battery, master cylinder and under hood.

The real deal.

The undercarriage got the typical detailing to the exhaust, gas tank, steering components and suspension components. Here you can also see some the engine details to the starter and fuel pump.
