Take a closer look. This is NOT your Lane's Camaro. Sure, it started as a Lane's Camaro, but it isn't the same as your Lane's Camaro. Take another look. At the grill. Catching on? Along with the obvious race modifications, this model has already received tons of mods with more to come. It's only in primer now but you can tell it has had the wheel opening trim and rocker trim ridges removed. A REAL hassle but it's gotta be accurate to.....well, more on that later!

Need a better hint on why this differs from your Camaro? The Camaro guys out there are catching on by now. But you can't get these in any store. I do need to fill those small holes for mounting the bumper. They certainly won't be needed on this model. Hopefully soon you'll be able to see the oil cooler and trans cooler in the lower valance holes. They will be plumbed with real braided scale hose.

Here's another clue. I hope to get the thing painted soon. I'm getting rather tired of test fitting parts. I think the basics are in place. And yes, the holes in the trunk lid and spoiler are supposed to be there. I had to machine those myself. Quite tricky but everything turned out well. I'll be adding a fuel cell inside the trunk as well as some additional roll cage parts that extend into the trunk.

I wanted to get at least one picture of the engine before I have to paint the engine a solid color. Race motors just didn't have orange paint nor chrome valve covers. I'll be adding additional items such as a radiator overflow tank and a pressurized auxiliary oil fill tank. Additional plumbing will be added to the overflow tank, oil tank, oil cooler and trans cooler. I'll also be adding brake lines and fuel lines. The engine will look kind of boring when it becomes one solid color. I've already detailed the unique cowl induction air cleaner to look like aluminum. Nope, that's not chrome foil but it does look like chrome (polished aluminum at least). I have a new technique but I'm keeping this one to myself. I'll also be adding an aluminum filler panel over the hood latch area between the radiator support and the front valance panel. The hood is held down by pins so a hood latch isn't needed.

The interior has been race-ified. The racing bucket is an authentic looking piece. Here you can see the beginnings of the roll cage. It's not complete yet but I have a start. I have much more roll cage pieces to fabricate and include and the door panels still need the race treatment. The dash and floor pans have been properly treated with paint and the proper gutted look of a racer. I do still need to add the racing gauges. You can also see a little of my body work in progress here.

Here's your last clue as to why this one is so different. Have you run to get your Lane's Camaro yet? And that mirror came unchromed and no that's not chrome foil. That's my new technique. What do you think?

So far I haven't been able to fabricate a set of headers so I'm still using the "stock" exhaust manifolds. The racing exhaust is quite unique. The rear tires will be wider at some point but the width will be added to the inside. It's hard to believe the race version I'm modeling did not have the factory anti-sway bar or even an aftermarket anti-sway bar on back. It didn't so this one doesn't either.

Check back for updates!
