Will the real Scooter, please stand up!

When I first got on the internet I was told you should never use your real name, nor give out any personal information that would allow someone else to know too much about yourself. The idea was to remain somewhat protective of your own identity and privacy. Well, when I joined discussions boards, I figured I should have a consistent name to go by so folks could recognize me, was not offensive and that I could remember from day to day. Since I didn't have a nickname I decided to borrow one from my dog.

Our oldest dog, Alex, had been given a nickname by a good friend of ours. When we lived close to our friend Bob (unfortunately we no longer live near Bob) he used to stop by almost daily to visit. Bob and Alex had a special relationship and at times it was clear Bob stopped by to see Alex more than us! Alex would be very excited if we told him "uncle" Bob was on his way over. Anyway, Bob thought Alex needed a nickname and Bob being a professional writer (science fiction novels & short stories) allowed him the imagination to choose the perfect nickname for our dog: Scooter! Alex seemed to respond to the name quite well and, well, he LOOKED like a Scooter and the name just stuck.

Since my imagination is so poor, I adopted this alias when surfing the web because I knew I could remember that name forever. When it came time to get into the detailing business (if you can call it that) I first named it RC Customizing but that just didn't seem to fit. Everyone already knew me as Scooter so I changed it to Detailing by Scooter. It just fit.

Well, as promised, here is the "real" Scooter:

Alex is a first generation Cockapoo which is a Cocker Spaniel/Poodle mix. He is one of the most endearing, energetic and lovable little friends you could ever hope to meet. He loves everybody he meets and just simply brings joy and happiness into our lives. He is very special to us. This picture seems to capture his personality quite well. Here is another from one of his more quiet moments.

Of course a page dedicated to Alex wouldn't be complete without also showing off his dog companions. As many of you know, we lost our beloved Zoe in July 2000. She will forever live on in our hearts and in Alex's heart (he helped raise her from a pup). We miss you dearly sweet pea. She was truly one of the most affectionate, beautiful creatures, human or animal I have ever known. Her life with us was much too brief. Zoe too was a Cockapoo, but she was more 'Cocka' than 'Poo' as you can see.

She was an equally beautiful puppy.

Of course, Alex was not left alone for long. We recently added TWO new babes to our household, affectionately called The Puppy Chicks.

I think you can see why I chose Lilly. Her resemblance to Zoe is quite striking. Lilly is a purebred Cocker Spaniel. I only wish I could have claimed her before her tail was docked. (When will breeders and the AKA realize this is nothing but mutilation?) She is a bright, happy dog with enough personality for a whole litter of pups.

And last but not least is the little powerhouse we call Louise. She is a purebred Lhasa Apso. She looks a lot like a walking teddy bear and is about as easy to love. She looks pretty harmless, but she comes from a long line of watchdogs bred by Tibetan monks for guarding monasteries, so watch out!

Of course these last two are my wife's dogs.....

Well, then again, maybe not.......
