1969 Mustang Mach 1, Calypso Coral (Ertl)

Detailed by Regis

On the Ertl 69 mustang Mach 1, the light buckets are much too long and really look terrible. It would have been better for Ertl to design the grill without them, than have these huge bugeyes totally ruin the look of the whole model. So after many days of debating whether I should try to modify the buckets and looking over the tools I had, I decided to do it. Making sure I protected the chrome areas with tape, I used a ceramic circular grinder that is about the diameter of the buckets. I ground down the bottom of the buckets to where is now flush with the bottom of the chrome part of the grill, instead of protruding from it. I also ground down the sides a little to keep the bucket edge as flat as possible while leaving the top untouched.

The results are much better than expected, the buckets are now much smaller than original and with the painting they look almost correct. The mustang got a wheel swap, they are magnums from a 69 Camaro. All the trim was chrome foiled and all the details painted, including the engine/trans, battery caps and radiator cap. In the interior, the underside of the windshield pillars and ceiling edges were painted black as well as the side air scoops. The screw bulge on the floor next to the seats were also painted.

Great job Regis!
