We started with a LE silver '69 Z-28 out of the aging Ertl mold. The first order of business was to add the vinyl top. This is a bit of a trick since the '69 Camaro had a top treatment where the vinyl doesn't come all the way to the roof rail. The car comes with some details like the custom wheels but I added the chrome trim around the windows, vinyl top, side marker lights and the wheel openings. I also painted the grill argent and black washed to "holes" to give it some depth. I did leave the headlight surrounds and the ring around the grill chrome as they should be.

One thing RC2 failed to do was to remove the RS-only back up lights from the lower valance on the non-RS models. I tried to remove them so I could fill the holes and paint over them but they were too firmly attached. I would have ended up repainting the entire valance piece and I wasn't sure I could match the paint color. From here you can see the detailed exhaust pipes as well as the vinyl and chrome.

Here you can really see the top and the seams in the top along the roof and below the rear window. You can also see the strip of body color which shows at the edge of the top.

I painted the underside of the hood, the hood latch, the master cylinder, the hose clamps and the fuel pump. I see forgot to paint the battery caps! (Ken, I can tell you how to do that in about 1 minute, it's super easy.) I also black washed the valve covers to make the fins show up a little better.

The interior was fairly well detailed with hounds tooth seat inserts. I painted the screw nubs black to make them disappear and I detailed the shifter boot and shifter knob.

The exhaust was already silver so I painted in the pipe tip hollows, the gas tank, oil filter, fuel pump, leaf springs engine/suspension cradle and rear shocks. I then also gave the gas tank some straps.
