1969 Camaro ZL1, Yellow (Ertl)

This one got a little more than just the typical chrome detailing. The vinyl and mags are pretty obvious I guess. The mags are the GMP Grumpy set with skinnies up front and slicks in the rear. I didn't do any detailing beyond the wheel swap, chrome and vinyl. I didn't do any painted details on this one but the detailing it did receive really set it appart than the rest. The vinyl did show up on a few COPOs and Yenko cars so it really fits on this ZL1. The slicks out back really add to the serious street dominator look. The grills on these models comes all chrome so I painted it flat silver and of course then had to repaint the bowtie blue.

The black top has great contrast against the bright yellow paint. The 69 Camaro vinyl top is unique in that it doesn't go all the way to the drip rails, it stops a little short leaving a little body color between the vinyl chrome edge strip and the edge of the roof. Chrome drip rails were optional with or without the vinyl top. This customer decided the COPO would not likely have any extra chrome so we decided to leave this chrome off.

The top went on quite well on this model You can clearly see the seams to give it an authentic vinyl top look. The black top has nice contrast with the yellow and goes well with the black interior. The chrome on this one is limited to the front and rear window trim, lock cylinders, the side marker lights and around the vinyl top of course. Ertl got the yellow paint down just great on this limited edition run.

The slicks and skinnies sure give the model a serious looking stance. I've not altered the suspension in any way, I just swapped on the new wheels. The slicks really fill up the rear wheel wells. The black top adds just enough visual something extra to make this model really perk up.

I didn't add much detailing on the engine except the lid to the master cylinder. But what fun would it be to display a ZL1 without showing where the motivation comes from? This shot is really intended to again show how the grill now looks with the flat silver, black and blue paint detailing. Enjoy Ken!
